About Ben

To start: I believe there are few things more beautiful than a well-prepared Old Fashioned and the sound of a 1966 Royal typewriter.  If you’re looking for a touch more (credible) detail about me: I graduated from the University of Southern California’s film school where I had the opportunity to study the art of story crafting and editing through a variety of mediums.  After majoring in critical studies with minors in screen and creative writings, I worked at several production companies such as Wes Craven Films, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Sony Pictures where I contributed notes and creative content across a various number of projects.

“Hasskamp’s debut novel is a unique and oddly endearing tale of self-discovery.”

—Kirkus Reviews

I’ve published several articles, rants, and stories in the Star Tribune, Diverse Voices Quarterly, Medium, and Pecorino & Eggs.

In 2017 I published my debut novel, Cities of the Common Man available on Amazon.

Personally, I’m obsessed with the likes of Carson McCullers, Charles Bukowski, Eve Babitz, Joan Didion, Celeste Ng, Bret Easton Ellis, and David Sedaris.  My favorite podcasts are This American Life, Serial, 99% Invisible, Stuff You Should Know, and How Did This Get Made.  I also have a one-year old Labradoodle named Baxter, whom I refuse to believe is anything other than “the best boy.”
